First available in Windows 2000 as Offline Folders, Offline Files in Windows Vista facilitates users storing networks files on their computers when they are not connected to the network or when there is a network outage. When properly configured, Offline Files automatically use offline copies of files whenever the network files are unavailable. Even though the network files are not available, users can continue work uninterrupted until the network connection is restored. As soon as the network connection is reestablished, Windows Vista will automatically sync the local computer files with those in the network folder.
