It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Lighting instruments are the tools of our trade. Just as a mechanic must know what his tools are capable of, it is important to understand the capacity of our resources in order to use them to their potential. Here we will examine them classified in their major groups: LEDs, tungsten Fresnels, HMIs, open faced units, PARs, softs, broads, and miscellaneous. You will see that lights are often referred to as 2K, 5K, etc. The K stands for kilowatt—a thousand watts. Since the wattage is not a good measure of the power of an LED, they are referred to by different methods, such as the diameter of the lens (Figure 2.9).
