The electromagnetic spectrum extends from gamma rays to extreme low-frequency radio waves. For our purposes, we are only concerned with the visible spectrum, which goes from violet to red (Figure 7.1). It is more easily visualized as the color wheel, invented by Isaac Newton. It includes magenta, which is not actually a color, it can only be created by mixing red and blue.
