GLOSSARY OF NLP TERMS

NLP has developed its own shorthand and specific meanings for some common terms. The following are some practical definitions of terms as used in this book. (Full definitions and explanations can be found in the ‘encyclopedia of NLP’ @ www.nlpuniversitypress.com).

Anchoring The process of associating an external trigger with an internal response, e.g. a resourceful state.

‘As-if’ frame Pretending that some event has happened or situation holds, for example, acting ‘as if’ I am a presenter, or ‘as if’ we have already overcome the issue.

Associated In tune with feelings of an event, along with the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of an event. The event could be in the here and now, recalled, or constructed.
