Chapter 15. Sandstone Acidizing Design

15.1. Introduction

As described in Chapter 14, matrix acidizing is a stimulation technique that is beneficial in sandstone formations primarily when near-wellbore damage exists that can be removed with acid. Therefore, the first step in the planning of any matrix acidizing treatment for a sandstone formation should be a careful analysis of the cause(s) of impaired well performance. This analysis should begin with the measurement of the well skin effect. For highly deviated wells, there is a negative skin effect contribution from the extra exposure to the reservoir. A slightly positive or even zero skin effect that is obtained from a well test should be investigated. Potential recovery of a negative skin ...
