Appendix A. Installation

If you are developing Web applications on your own server (home computer), you will most likely need to install the requisite software first. If you are using a Web host, they’ll have already done this for you.

As I mentioned in the introduction to the book, there are three technical requirements: MySQL (the database application), PHP (the scripting language), and a Web server (that runs PHP code). In this appendix I will cover the installation of these tools on two different platforms—Windows and Macintosh—which should cover most readers.
