This chapter will discuss how to build native applications for BlackBerry smartphones. The BlackBerry is a product of Research in Motion (RIM), a public company based in Waterloo, Ontario. Founded in 1984, RIM released its first BlackBerry smartphone in 2002. Optimized for push email and with an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry became the "gold standard" in smartphones for business professionals and executives in the US and Europe.
