84G LTE: The Future of Mobile Wireless Telecommunication Systems for Public Safety Networks
8.1 Introduction
There have been many changes in the way telecommunication companies have been doing business – not only to satisfy the needs of the consumer but also to compete with other telecommunication services. Advances in technology have led to the integration of several telecommunication services and devices. Improved semiconductor and electronics manufacturing technology, and the growth of the internet and mobile telecommunications are some of the factors which have fueled this growth in telecommunications. One of the biggest concerns for wireless service providers is that of coping with a growing demand for data. Users are consuming more data every year and the telecoms industry over the last few years has seen unprecedented mobile data traffic growth due to the increasing adoption and usage of smartphones, tablets, and many other small handheld devices. As the reliance on the internet continues to grow, so too will the demand for higher data capacity and throughput. In addition, the number of mobile subscribers is also growing, making service providers worry about how to most efficiently allocate their available spectrum. Overloading service cells and having insufficient data capacity and throughput will continue to be a pressing concern. Long Term Evolution (LTE) was designed as an upgrade to the 2G and 3G systems that were in use previously. In an attempt to meet the standards ...
