Preface

The content of this text comes from several semesters of an advanced programming course in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology department at George Mason University. The intent of this course was to learn an advanced programming language and apply it to current publications in the field of bioinformatics. Along the way a toolbox was created to assist in the replication of published algorithms. The chapters in this book describe the construction of the tools or, more importantly, their use in bioinformatics applications. All of the codes and examples in this text are also available at www.jbpub.com/biology/bioinformatics. The reader will be able to replicate all of the examples in this book using the Python codes and data files ...
