In Chapters 5 and 6, I show you how to use transaction screens for entering checks, sales receipts, invoices, customer payments, and more. I also show how you can search and filter existing transactions. In this chapter, I show how to use registers to carry out these actions. Another way registers are helpful is for accessing a bird’s-eye view of transactions that affect certain accounts in your books.
Understanding Registers
Registers allow you to see every transaction that affects a particular account. In short, registers are chronological lists of transactions that were maintained on paper before the advent of computers, but now appear onscreen.
To view the register for a particular account, choose Settings ⇒ Accounting ⇒ Chart of Accounts in the Your Company column. Next, click the View Register link in the Action column to display the register for the account of your choice, as shown in Figure 7-1.
