Foreword

We stand at the intersection of two of the most profound revolutions in modern history: the data and AI revolutions. Each is reshaping our world, and each is driving the other forward in a relentless, symbiotic loop of technological transformation.

The first revolution is one of data, and it is a silent, relentless tsunami. We have moved far beyond gigabytes and terabytes; we now speak in petabytes and exabytes. I have had a front-row seat for the evolution of both data and AI for the past 25 years. My career in data began when the immediate challenge was simply capturing and storing information. We, as an industry, built massive, structured data warehouses to answer critical but retrospective questions. Business intelligence was the art of looking in the rearview mirror—compiling weekly sales reports, analyzing quarterly trends, and understanding what happened.
