It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Oh, was für ein verworrenes Netz wir gewebt haben!
Ich habe meine Karriere im Technologiebereich begonnen, als das World Wide Web zum ersten Mal in der Geschäftswelt eingesetzt wurde. Wie ein roter Faden zieht sich die Anwendung der Lehren aus dem Web auf die komplexe Welt der Unternehmensarchitektur und der digitalen Geschäftsstrategie durch meine berufliche Laufbahn, insbesondere auf die Web-APIs, die im Zentrum vonallem zu stehen scheinen.
2012 hatte ich das Vergnügen, mich mit Mike Amundsen zusammenzutun. Seitdem haben wir bei vielen API-Projekten zusammengearbeitet, und ich habe immer wieder von ihm gelernt. Mike war es, der mir die grundlegenden Prinzipien des Webs und noch viel mehr beigebracht hat. Es erstaunt mich immer wieder, wie Mike es schafft, Erkenntnisse zu finden, die ich übersehen habe und die mir im Nachhinein so offensichtlich erscheinen. Das RESTful Web API Patterns and Practices Cookbook fasst viele dieser Prinzipien und Erkenntnisse in einem sehr praktischen Paket zusammen.
Als sich das Internet Anfang der 90er Jahre durchsetzte, studierte ich an einer kleinen Hochschule Mathematik. Meine Professoren waren anfangs am meisten begeistert, was angesichts der akademischen Wurzeln des Internets wohl auch Sinn macht. Ich musste sie davon abhalten, die Filmkritiken anderer Leute zu lesen, um zu unseren Algebra-Stunden zurück zu kommen.
