In Part Two structures and processes for extrinsic reward determination are introduced and evaluated. Practicalities surrounding their design and operation are sketched. Over three chapters, first, basic employee reward architecture is described; second, pay determination and systems for pay ‘progression’ are specified; and third, notions of variable pay – contingent on factors such as competence, skill, performance and summative ‘contribution’ – are reviewed.
