Acknowledgments
This book began as a suggestion by my editor at O’Reilly, Deborah Russell, who contacted me after seeing a white paper[2] on Windows NT security I published on the Internet. I’d like to thank her for providing valuable and precise comments on content, structure, and style. Without her support and guidance, this book would have been a mess!
The white paper was inspired by my colleague and friend Kevin Steves’ work.[3] Kevin has reviewed several drafts of this book and has acted as my mentor on this project. This book would not have been nearly as good without his support. I would also like to thank the technical reviewers for this book: Simson Garfinkel, Greg Hoglund, David LeBlanc, Kevin Steves, and Elizabeth Zwicky.
I am also immensely grateful to my loving and supporting wife, Marianne, who patiently read, commented on, and questioned every single sentence in this book — twice.
I’d like to thank my former colleagues and managers at Hewlett-Packard for being extremely skilled professionals, supportive of my endeavors, and such good friends. I’d also like to thank all the people on the Internet who downloaded and commented on the original white paper. The Internet is truly great for sharing ideas and meeting new friends.
