Conclusion: The SHIFTS Impact
I want to sincerely thank you for allowing me to join you on your journey to transforming your mindset and elevating your leadership. I hope you've enjoyed our journey together through the SHIFTS approach, but more important, I hope you've found value in it.
When I sat down to write this book, I originally thought about how these lessons could help my teams do better and be better. But then I thought bigger. These lessons are not just for my team and my leaders. They are for any team and every leader. It is my hope that you can see yourself in the examples of my personal experiences and formulate your own growth as you move forward, wherever you live and whatever your culture, environment, age, status, or dream for a better tomorrow.
The fact is that none of these ideas are complicated, but the surest truths rarely are. As C. S. Lewis wrote to a friend shortly before the beginning of World War II:
The process of living seems to consist of coming to realize truths so ancient and simple that, if stated, they sound like barren platitudes. They cannot sound otherwise to those who have not had the relevant experience; that is why there is no teaching of such truths possible, and every generation starts from scratch.1
Like Lewis, I have found truth to be remarkably uncomplicated, yet often incredibly difficult to put into practice.
