It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

CAMERA ASSISTANT CHECKLISTS
The camera assistants have sole responsibility for everything that happens with the camera, the lenses, the film stock, and the magazines. They are responsible for the overall care and operation of all camera equipment during production.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The first assistant:
- Orders, tests, and preps all camera equipment and lenses
- Directs the organization of all camera equipment on the camera truck and on the set
- Builds and mounts the camera
- Places the camera on the set
- Maintains and mounts the lenses
- Focuses
- Zooms
- Checks and cleans the film gate
- Supervises the second assistant
