Introduction

In this chapter we illustrate the IFM principles using a hypothetical project— construction of a financial services portal for a retail bank—designed to demonstrate the methodology in action.

The bank wants to develop a Web-facing application to provide its customers with a range of transactional and informational services. The development costs are to be offset by a mixture of new account revenue and operational savings from the business.
