TIP 46: Use simple words and short sentences to express your message.

If you go to a Toastmasters club anywhere in the world tonight, you will likely be encouraged to use the word of the day. More often than not, it is a “$10 word” like quixotic, sanguine, or mellifluous. It is a fun game that encourages quick thinking on the part of each speaker and active listening on the part of the audience. Also, there is often a 100 percent guarantee of laughter when a speaker uses the word, since it relieves audience tension.
