5章メタデータクエリ
本章は、スキーマに関する情報を見つけるためのレシピを紹介します。例えば、どのテーブルを作成したのか、どの外部キーがインデックス付けされていないのかを知りたい場合があります。本書で扱うRDBMSはすべて、そのようなデータを取得するためのテーブルやビューを提供しています。本章のレシピを使うと、そのようなテーブルやビューから情報を収集できるようになります。
一般的に、RDBMS内のテーブルやビューにメタデータを保存する戦略は共通していますが、最終的な実装は本書で扱うほとんどのSQL言語機能ほどは標準化されていません。そのため、他の章と比べると、本書ではRDBMSごとに解決策が異なることがはるかに多くなります。
以降では、本書で扱うRDBMSごとに書かれた最も一般的なスキーマクエリを選んでいます。入手できる情報は、本章のレシピで示した情報よりかなりたくさんあります。ここで示した情報では不十分な場合は、RDBMSマニュアルでカタログやデータディクショナリテーブル/ビューの全一覧を参照してください。
