Das Übungsbuch ergänzt in erster Linie das von den beiden Autoren verfasste Lehrbuch „Statistik − Grundlagen und Methodik", kann jedoch auch unabhängig davon als Übungsressource genutzt werden. Es enthält Aufgaben inklusive ausführlicher Lösungen zu vielen Standardthemen aus den Bereichen deskriptive Statistik, Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung und schließende Statistik. Behandelt werden die beschreibende Statistik ein- und zweidimensionaler Daten, elementare Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung, das Rechnen mit Zufallsvariablen und Zufallsvektoren, das Schätzen und Testen von Parametern sowie die lineare Regression. Die Übungen bestehen zum großen Teil aus Rechenaufgaben, die dazu dienen, sich mit den in der Statistik üblichen Formeln und Denkweisen vertraut zu machen, sowie aus Theorieaufgaben, in denen Wissen abgefragt wird bzw. Aussagen oder Formeln hergeleitet werden. Die Verwendung dieses Buches ermöglicht eine eigenständige und aktive Auseinandersetzung mit den Grundlagen und der Methodik der Statistik und ist damit eine ideale Ergänzung des Lehrbuchs.
