This chapter presents two pairs of case studies that deliver performance upgrades, ‘seen and unseen’, to both built fabric and systems with differing degrees of visibility. The range and contrast between them justifies the need to develop a relational overview of contextual considerations in order to evaluate properly the trajectory of altering building performance for historic buildings.
