The IMS-related Protocols
The building blocks of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network are a set of Internet Protocols (IP). Most of these have been proven and deployed in IP communication infrastructure. As we see in Figure 4.1, the protocols conform to the IP hourglass model corresponding to the seven-layer Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) network model. Our focus in this chapter will be mostly on the session and application layer protocols. We will also examine some adjunct protocols in the context of IMS.
