It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

本書は、“Brian W. Fitzpatrick and Ben Collins-Sussman, Team Geek - A Software Developer’s Guide to Working Well with Others, O’Reilly Media, Inc., 2012”の全訳である……と言いたいところだが、著者たちの「ギークな表現」については「とにかく頑張って日本語にした」としか言えない。
たとえば、意味がよくわからない箇所を著者たちに質問したところ、「そこは“Paralipsis”だから気を付けてね！」と言われたのだが、不勉強ながら「Paralipsis（逆言法）」という言葉を知らなかった。こういう「頭のいい表現」をサラリと使っているのが本書の特徴なのである。私と違って英語に自信のあるみなさんは、原書も併せて読むことで「ギークな表現」を味わっていただきたい。
本書の内容については、200ページ程度なので改めて解説する必要はないはずだ。日本語版には及川卓也さんによる「まえがき」もついているので、概略を知りたければ最初にそこに目を通すといいだろう（きっと本文も読みたくなるはずだ！）。
日本語版の「まえがき」をお願いするにあたっては（実際にお会いしたことがないにもかかわらず）及川さん以外考えられなかった。恥ずかしながら「NHK プロフェッショナル 仕事の流儀」を見るまでお名前を存じ上げなかったのだが、名立たるハッカー†1 たちとやり取りをする光景を見て、深く記憶に残ったのがきっかけだ。心よく引き受けてくださり、本当に感謝いたします。
