WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS . . . GET HELP
The bully survives on your silence.
—CHRISTINE FARRELL CROTTY1
You have confronted the bully, but it did not work. Now what? The short answer is that you have an even greater opportunity to develop your character, as continuing to deal with the problem will test your tenacity and determination to practice civility in your situation. In this chapter we will discuss who can be helpful to you if your own attempts to remediate the bullying are unsuccessful. We will share what the law says about workplace bullying, referred to as “abusive supervision, incivility, and creating a hostile work environment.” Dealing with bullying is a complicated task.
