Chapter 6. Coaching conversations: the coaching path
The following offers a potential supporting structure, or guide, for a typical coaching conversation. By ‘typical’, I refer to most formal coaching conversations, as well as many casual or unplanned conversations. The ‘coaching path’ is intended to help any coach navigate through a conversation and to provide useful frames of activity, e.g. ‘At the moment I’m in surface understanding, that’s all I need to do’. It is not intended to provide a formula for every conversation, or inhibit your natural creativity and flexibility. Please be supported and encouraged by what follows, rather than restricted by it.
