In the previous chapter, I presented macro-level “Discourses” in the form of texts and lectures by club teachers in charge and seniors. I showed how these paved the way to socialise new club members, by and through language, into “new domains of knowledge and cultural practices” (Bayley and Schecter 2003: 2) – namely the interpersonal relations centred around the age-based hierarchical system in the social world of bukatsudou.
