Can I Go Deeper?
DESPITE BEING A TWO-DIMENSIONAL IMAGE, a photograph can have tremendous depth—or at least the illusion or feeling of depth. This feeling depends on the choices you make as the photographer, beginning with a recognition of whether or not a sense of greater depth serves your vision of the subject. Some images succeed not because of a sense of immersion or depth, but for the very lack of it. Some depend entirely on removing any perceived depth, and on pushing elements against each other to create forced connections or implied relationships that they would not have if there were more perceived space between them.
