This book began during a conversation I had with a colleague from my Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) days. Bob Eichenberg, now a director in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Atlanta office, described a project he was implementing in the area of reverse mentoring. How interesting, I thought: leadership coming from associates in the firm rather than from partners. Typically when one notices something for the first time, one begins to see it everywhere. I started to see leadership sprouting up in client organizations and companies.

Deciding to write an article about the topic, I contacted my editor at Harvard Business Review, Andrea Ovans, who helped me shape the idea for my Review blog post, Find the Reverse ...
