Establishing Agreements

THE NEGOTIATING PHASE of a mentoring relationship builds consensus and commitment. You and your mentee are now concerned with the question, “How will we move our work forward?” The ground rules and agreements that grow out of this conversation will define your work together.

This free-flowing but focused discussion can take place over one or several sessions. Use this opportunity to consider together how each of you would like to see the mentoring process unfold; then add depth, specificity, and a framework to your broad mutual objectives.
