A computer-use contract is a good way to make sure expectations are clear—for children and adults. This appendix includes a very basic sample contract with some suggestions for expanding it to meet your family’s needs.
I cannot stress enough that the contract should go two ways. Kids need to know what the expectations are and also that their needs are being addressed.
I suggest sitting down as a family to write your contract. I also suggest starting with broad boundaries and limits and pulling them in if strong restrictions are necessary. All members of the family should agree to abide by the contract, although you may need individual contracts for different age ranges or needs.
