Whether you’re illustrating someone else’s story or you’re supplying your own text, the written word is an integral part of a travel photo essay.

At the very least, a travel photographer will be responsible for captions that go along with their photos. You can save yourself a lot of time and effort tracking down information for captions by taking a quick snap of signage when you’re at a location. Sometimes the resulting image might be interesting enough to be included in a final edit but more often than not, it’s just for reference.
