Color is the most misunderstood visual component probably because of the confusing color education we received as children. For that reason, let’s begin with the color basics.
Color Systems
There are two basic systems for organizing and mixing color called additive and subtractive. These two systems share terms and certain characteristics but each one must be considered separately.
THE ADDITIVE SYSTEM
The additive system of color mixing uses colored light. Each color of light has a unique wavelength. When different colors of light illuminate the same surface the colors overlap, and add their wavelengths together to produce a new color.
