Bandwidth and Delay Measurements
As you know by now, MPLS TE is mostly about moving traffic around on your network, away from congested points and onto less-congested paths.
But what traffic do you move? From where? To where?
In order to move traffic away from spots that would otherwise be congested, you first need to know how much traffic you want to send across the network. You also need to know something about the properties of the paths onto which you'd move traffic.
To make these determinations, you need accounting and measurement tools, some of which you can find in Cisco IOS Software. Here are some of the many different measurement tools provided by Cisco IOS Software that you can use to figure out where your congestion lies:
