I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
2.4 Homework
You should now be ready to experiment with Network Monitor or Ethereal. It is recommended that you try to capture your own password as the first exercise. (The authors strongly discourage you from trying to capture somebody else’s password—after all, this would not be possible without switching your network card into promiscuous mode or using switched Ethernet.) Try these two exercises:
- Telnet protocol: You do not even need an account on a server. Choose whatever server you like that works with Telnet. Start up Network Monitor and, using Telnet, try to establish a connection and choose your username and password. The server will refuse the connection, but stop Network Monitor and use the frame search to find the username and password ...
