I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 4. Link Layer
There are many link protocols. In this chapter, we’ll take a closer look at Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP) , Compressed SLIP (CSLIP) , High-level Data Link Control (HDLC) , Point‑to-Point Protocol (PPP) , Frame Relay, and Ethernet.
4.1 Serial Line Internet Protocol
Serial Line Internet Protocol places IP packets directly into the serial line. In order to control the line, escape sequences are placed between data (analogous to communication between a computer and a printer).
SLIP protocol is specified by the standard RFC 1055. SLIP is a very simple protocol, which is used to transfer packets of the network layer.
