Why Plan?

Let's face it, planning seems like a waste of time. You already know what you want the program to do, and what you want it to look like. What more is there to plan? "The users do not know what they want, so why ask them? And there is a deadline that has to be met. If you take the time to plan, you may not have time to finish the project itself, and then where will the users be? The customer will never pay for time that is not dedicated to coding. Therefore, planning (and documentation) must be excluded from the project."

I have heard all of these excuses for not taking the time to plan. Some of them, I am sorry to say, were heard coming from my own mouth. Planning often does seem like a waste of time, especially in one-person projects. ...
