True to its name, this spotted cactus has large circular to elliptical paddles that give it its features. Interestingly enough, this cactus does not grow spines, but has short whitish-brown prickles called glochids. With a rich green body, creamy yellow flowers, and small purple fruits, it stands out in the dusty desert.
This is a fun cactus to paint because it is very forgiving. You will paint the paddles, and then fill them in with colors that bleed. The bleeds are the forgiving part. You want the centers of the paddles to remain light for highlights.
