As I set out to write Windows Server 2008 Administrator’s Pocket Consultant, my first goal was to determine what had changed between Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 and what new administration options were available. With any new operating system, and especially with Windows Server 2008, this meant a great deal of research to determine exactly how things work—and a lot of digging into the operating system internals. Thankfully I’d already written several books on Windows Vista and its new features, so I had a starting point of reference for my research, but by no means a complete one.
