Chapter 8. DHCP Server Role

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) lets you reduce the administration burden of configuring hosts on a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network by dynamically leasing IP addresses and other configuration settings to clients so they can communicate on the network. DHCP servers are, therefore, the backbone of reliable network communications, and the Server Core installation of Windows Server 2008 supports running the DHCP Server role for this purpose. This chapter looks at how to install, manage, and troubleshoot DHCP servers running on Server Core.
