Chapter 9. DNS Server Role

The Domain Name System (DNS) is central to the operation of both an Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) environment and the Internet. DNS provides a unique, hierarchical way of naming computers and services on a network and a mechanism for resolving these names into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses so that network communications can take place. The DNS Server role is one of the roles that can be installed on a Server Core installation of Windows Server 2008, and this chapter examines how to install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot DNS servers running on Server Core.
