The last golden age of the interactive narrative adventure game was in the midto late-1990s. For several years after that, the video game industry was dominated by action games, with relatively few sophisticated interactive narratives being produced. In recent years, however, there has been a resurgence in interactive narrative. For these reasons, I have used a combination of newer games and classic interactive narratives for the case studies in this book. These games and other narrative programs demonstrate a wide variety of different narrative techniques.
