20.3. Implementing Document Processing
Without a good system to make use of the resulting schemas, a document analysis is of little value. Following are some advantages (described more detail in Section 20.1) that can accrue with XML-based authoring, editing, and publishing:
Authors gain control over correct display of content without being style specialists (or even having to know the styles to be used).
Editors can ensure that display conventions are followed.
Display conventions can be changed without requiring any “fixing” of primary-source documents.
Content-based markup allows the display conventions to be adapted to new media much more easily.
Documents can more easily be “data-mined” and excerpted for use in other documents.
