Introduction
The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) developed the standard for transmitting IPv6 packets over IEEE 802.15.4 low-power wireless personal-area network (6lowpan) for the development of wireless sensor and control networks. Advantages of 6lowpan over other technologies include the interoperability with other wireless networks such as WiFi and WiMax, use of existing protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) for end-to-end reliability and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for management of the network, and it does not require the development of new standards as is the case for other technologies such as ZigBee.
