It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Introduction
The application support sublayer (APS) provides services to the application layer and the network layer through the application support data entity (APSDE) and application support management entity (APSME). Figure 6.1 shows the APS.

The APSDE accepts the application protocol data unit (APDU) from the application layer, adds its header information to the APDU, and transfers the resulting frame to the network layer. The APSDE uses the following primitives for data transfer:
