So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

3.5 Web services
Web services provide a description and access for server side functionality. They
provide a universal program-to-program communication model based on
standards and industry support. One of these standards is XML. Messages were
mainly proprietary before XML-based message exchange. With XML, there is a
way to formally describe the messages. Another technology that is can be used
is HTTP. The HTTP transport protocol supports browsers and Web servers.
Client side requires a programming language with XML and HTTP client
supports. For the server, a Web server and a servlet engine are required. ...
