1900 to 1949
The early 1900s are a time of great camera development. The modern colour tri-pack film is first proposed in 1905 and becomes a practical reality in 1935. But the hallmark of this period is the rapid development of highly functional rangefinder “miniature” cameras and the early SLRs such as the Kine Exakta, in 1936. It is also the time when cameras become affordable, and thus accessible to the public at large, making photography a feature of everyday life.
1900: After the Reverend Hannibal Goodwin’s death from a heart attack at age 78, his widow, Rachel, forms the Goodwin Film and Camera Company, which, along with his patent, is sold to the E. & H.T. Anthony Company in 1901.
