Communication is a core aspect of investor relations (IR). As noted before, this is evident in the very definition of investor relations provided by the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and adopted in 2003:
Investor relations is a strategic management responsibility that integrates finance, communication, marketing and securities law compliance to enable the most effective two-way communication between a company, the financial community, and other constituencies, which ultimately contributes to a company’s securities achieving fair valuation. (About NIRI 2003, p. 2)
The Investor Relations Society of the United Kingdom goes even farther by defining IR as:
