One method for sorting “things” in a work area into the categories shown in
Table 1.9 is called the “red-tag” strategy. First, team members red-tag and remove
from the workplace all things that are obviously “not wanted.” e unwanted items
are then thrown away or sold. Removal of “not wanted” things makes it easier to
see all remaining “wanted” and “needed” things. Second, team members red-tag
