This chapter reviews the current literature on the optical properties of polymer/nanoparticle composites. The influence of the different nanocomposite formation techniques and the associated nanoparticle agglomeration behaviour on the resulting optical features – such as refractive index, transmittance and fluorescence – is described in detail.
