On the most superficial level, film is primarily a medium founded on the illusion of believability—what we see looks real (most of the time). Thus, the focus of the producer and, consequently, the writer is on making what the audience sees as engaging as possible. What are the implications of this for the character? Does every main character have to be active, attractive, energetic, and find themself in an abundance of conflicting situations?
